The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Citizen’s Academy in October of 2017. The purpose of the academy is to give Mercer County residents the opportunity to see an overview of the Sheriff’s Office, and how it differs from other local law enforcement agencies.
The 2017 Academy will take place from October 17, 2017 - November 9, 2017, and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights for a four-week period. The class will begin at 6 p.m. and last for 2-3 hours per session. There will be some additional sessions and extended hours during the program. (See attached proposed class syllabus)
Participants will be provided with instruction that includes classroom time, hands on demonstrations, and tours of the facility. The students will also be given an opportunity to ride along with a patrol deputy and to observe employees in the Jail and Dispatch divisions.
The Academy is open to residents of Mercer County over the age of 21. A background check is required. Class size is limited. Interested persons may obtain an informational packet and application at the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office web page at www.mercercountysheriff.org or they may pick one up in person at the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, 4835 State Route 29, Celina, during normal business hours on weekdays. Completed applications need to be returned to the Sheriff’s Office by September 27, 2017.
